Council to review police, golf services

Updating and amending Pacific Grove's agreement with Carmel for police traffic services and a contract for marketing the city golf course are among items before the City Council Wednesday.

The council also will hear a report on proposed improvements to the city zoning code and vote final approval for budget amendments, employee retirement reform and an operating and lease agreement for the Museum of Natural History.

The council will convene in its chambers at 6 p.m. at City Hall, 300 Forest Ave.

SEASIDE

Health experts speak on state health plan

Health care advocate the Rev. Sandra Decker and Kay McVay of the California Nurses Association will discuss the California Universal Healthcare Act at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Peace Resource Center at 1364 Fremont Blvd.

Admission is free and open to the public.

MONTEREY

MIIS students present research on campus

Students from the Monterey Institute of International Studies' Graduate School of International Policy and Management will present research and findings on topics ranging from "The Role of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles in Modern Warfare" to "Youth-Led Development Projects at UN-HABITAT" at an expo 9a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at multiple locations on the MIIS campus.

PACIFIC GROVE

Tour of native garden includes free seeds

A free workshop and walking tour of the Pacific Grove Natural History Museum's Native Garden will take

place 5:30 p.m. Aug. 23 during the Pacific Grove Farmers' Market at Central and Grand avenues.

Free flower and vegetable seeds will be given out and one person will win a worm-compost bin.

A public workshop on the city of Pacific Grove's upcoming green building program will be held 6 to 8p.m. Aug. 23 at the Community Center, 515 Junipero Ave.
