MIIS lecture series looks at nation building

Nation building is the theme of the Monterey Institute of International Studies' second Global Problems and Solutions Colloquium.

The institute scheduled two public lectures in March and one in May. All lectures run 6 to 8 p.m. in the Irvine Auditorium, 499 Pierce St.

Speakers are:

· Wednesday: Michael Marx, senior civil-military coordination adviser for the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, speaks about "Nexus of Nation-Building Efforts/Process and Humanitarian Assistance."

· March 30: Derick Brinkerhoff, distinguished fellow in international public management at the Research Triangle Institute, speaks about "Administrative Capacity Building for Nation Building: Challenges and Lessons Learned."

· May 4: Kent Glenzer, director of the Learning, Evaluation and Accountability Department at Oxfam America, speaks about "Democracy and the Role of Civil Society in Nation Building."
