Two college students from Braintree (Danielle Susi of the Class of 2013, a political science major minoring in international studies and English, and Stephanie Ferris of the Class of 2012, a public relations major minoring in psychology) are holding a fundraiser to finance their upcoming humanitarian trips to Nicaragua through Quinnipiac University.

"Combined, our trips will cost upwards of $4,000," Susi said.

The fundraiser (guests must be at least 21) is scheduled for Jan. 13 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bin Ends Wine on 236 Wood Rd. #A. The entry fee is $25.

There will be wine tasting, appetizers, and raffles of items including gift cards to Braintree favorites like Kristin's, Richardi's, Konditor Meister, and a salon basket to J Spa.

"This will be Steph's first time down and my third, and we're so incredibly grateful to have the opportunity to help change people's lives in a less fortunate region of the world," Susi said. "We're willing and excited to take the same type of dedication that we have to our town and friends and family and bring it around the world with us."

The goal of Susi and Ferris is to assist Nicaraguan citizens' efforts to develop and strengthen their dwindling economic, educational, and cultural programs within their communities.

Susi can be reached at Danielle.Susi@Quinnipiac.edu.
